What do you think of when someone says ‘small dishwashers’? Do you think of dishwashing machines that cannot wash that many dishes? Well, small dishwashers are just appliances that are smaller than the average 24″ that will be typically placed under a kitchen counter. But those are usually to big for a person that has a small kitchen.
That is where small dishwashers come into play to save the day of manually washing the dishes while living in an apartment or home with a small kitchen. Small dishwashing machines will typically have fixed 18 inch width size, the height is usually the same as standard sized. There are some versions of them that are stand alone which makes the more portable, and then there are the ones that are fixed that go onto a kitchen counter or underneath one.
Don’t let the idea of small dishwashers not being able to wash dishes better than or to the same quality that a larger sized one get to your head. They will usually have the same features, just in a smaller package. You have to also remember that some of the features that you can get you may not want or will never use. If you are looking for a dishwasher that will just keep and get your dishes clean, then you will not require that many features. So, this brings me to you need to know what you want in a dishwasher.
Below are the different types of small dishwashers along with descriptions of them that you are able to select from to use in small kitchens.
Countertop Dishwashing Machines
These types of dishwahing appliances are the smallest that you can select from. They are ideal for people that are living by themselves, or even young couples. They also work great for people that are living in apartments, RV or are looking for a different one because they are remodeling. They basically sit on top of your kitchen counter close to a sink because the hose will be connected to the sink’s plumbing system. They have up to 4 place settings with a for a single load. These type cannot handle large individual cookware, or handle that large loads at one time.
Portable Dishwashing Machines
Portable models are the medium size of the small dishwashers that are available. They will measure around 18 inches or below. Just like the countertop ones, they will need to be connected to a sink’s plumbing when you are in need of clean dishes. Some of these even have casting wheel on them which makes them very easy to move around when you are cleaning. They can tackle washing more dishes at one time, also they can wash bigger cookware than the countertop, like cookie sheets. The person that will best make use of this are the ones that don’t have the luxury of doing a full kitchen remodel, or for those that would like to have more capacity for a single wash load.
Slimline Dishwashing Machines
This category of diswashing machines are the closest ones that you can get to a full size 24 inch, 6 inches smaller. They are commonly referred to as ’18 inch dishwashers’. You might not think that 6 inches will be a big deal, but if you don’t have a big kitchen then getting the most out of the size is very important. They will have permanent plumbing, and they will be in a fixed location. They can handle washing more dishes at once, and also handle large dishes individually. The place setting will typically be around 6 to 8.
